Today is the Mathematik-Informatik-Physik (MIP) tag outreach event at the university, and my group has set up a cool, partially interactive booth.
The booth consists of the interactive reinforcement learning platform that I mentioned in the outreach section of my website, which is a huge hit for the students, along with a modular research poster that explains some of the research projects in the group and the relevant concepts associated with it; we designed it so that the volunteers at the booth can switch in their preferred topic. We also have an “ask-me-anything” card game where the students can ask us about our experiences studying physics and what it took to get there. Lastly, we designed a self-contained station where a diffusion model chatbot can generate images based on student input, then generate quantum circuits and explain how the process works.
It’s great to see the full booth in action with students – in particular, the especially hard-to-please high school students – genuinely engaging with it. I have to give a big shout-out to our volunteers as well, whose energy helps transform the booth into what it is!
